Swift Trucking School Review

Swift Transportation has made a name in the trucking industry. It is a company based in the USA that started as early as 1966. They started small by simply transporting imported steel and cotton. As years of success passed, it eventually became a huge company.

Swift Trucking is currently operating around 20,000 trucks and is generating a whopping $4,000,000,000 in revenue. On top of that, they also offer a trucking career at Swift Academy. When truck drivers are given their CDL, they are given the opportunity to reap the benefits the company has to offer.

2 Weeks Course

Aside from their Swift Driving Academy, they also have launched a shorter course known as Swift CDL School. One course, in particular, is the Two Week Course. It is somewhat a preliminary exam before attending their official driving academy.

Unlike most school driving itineraries, you won’t have to step outside the comfort of your home in the first week. You’ll be trained via online through a series of modules given to you by the company. When a potential driver is finally finished with their modules, they will then have to go through written CDL exams. These will be held at a local Department of Motor Vehicles near you.

After successfully passed the exams, drivers can now then attend the company’s 2-week Driving Academy. So in reality, it won’t really be done in just 2 weeks. The whole process would take you approximately 3 weeks.

The 2 weeks will mostly consist of instructions about driving and backing maneuvers. During the first few days, classes will be held in a classroom. The remainder of the course will mostly have you on the road with hands-on driving lessons. A few hours here and there will be mixed in for a few additional lessons inside the classroom.

3 Weeks Course

This 3 weeks course is closely similar to their 3 weeks course. The only difference is that it doesn’t involve taking online trainings or lessons. During the first week, students will have to report in for study lessons and CDL written exams. Just like a regular class, you will be spending the time in a classroom.

After the first week of the course, students will now continue on with the company’s 2-week driving academy. This would involve a few days of lessons in a classroom and the remainder days will be actual driving and maneuvering training.

According to a review, once a student finally receives their license, Swift Company will again offer them a truck driving training. It is an extension in which they will be provided for new drivers. Students will be mentored by a Swift Pro which usually lasts about 6 weeks. The ultimate goal of this training is to provide drivers the best way possible to deliver their cargo.

Some of lessons and training involved in this course are:

  • Satisfying your customer by providing their needs.
  • How to load and unload your cargo properly.
  • Delivering freight to your destination.

Swift Training Academy

The training academy is where the two courses mentioned above will have to go through. It is a 2-week course where the student will be taught driving techniques, maneuvering skills, and driving range practices.

Usually, there will be at most 4 students assigned to a truck. Each student will then have to take their own turns for their equal driving time practicing backing maneuvers. There will be approximate of 40 hours of classroom instructions during the course, and the rest will be sitting in the driver’s seat.

The course is not your regular 8 hours per day training. It usually ends up being an 11-hour per day and 6 days a week. You will also have to attend the classes very early at 5 in the morning. Compared to other driving schools, it is a little steep by the clock, but the rewards are way more beneficial.

How to get free CDL training with Swift

Unlike most of the other truck driving schools, there is an option in which you can receive a free CDL training. By free, we mean you can pay it off through Swift’s interest-free financing. You literally won’t have to spend a dime, but you’ll have to work for it. And each week you receive your paycheck, a $150 will be deducted.

This will last for 13 months. By that time, you have now paid twice the price of the full tuition fee that is around $3,900. But that doesn’t end there. You will have to remain with the company for another 13 months to get back the extra fee you’ve paid and more. Your paycheck by then will have an additional $150.

Important Note:

The free training course will require you to work for the company for 26 months with pay. However, if you happen to leave the company for some reason before the first 13-month period is up, you are required to pay $300 each remaining month of your 13th month period.

Each student will have to pay the tuition of $3,900 to attend the training program. You can choose not to but will have to work for the company for 26 months.
